How It All Started
The DanceChamp Academy is a progressive and dynamic Ballroom and Latin American dance school taking inspiration from dance styles and music trends over recent years. Our aim is to promote high-level dance tuition within a fun and friendly environment. For the serious dancer we hope to raise levels of competence and help you realise your ambitions, for the beginners our aim is to nurture your interest in dancing and help you progress at a level that suits your ability.
Kate Fisher Dance Academy began in 2002 in the Daventry area; it soon became apparent that there was a demand for dance classes especially amongst the junior age groups as parents could see the benefit of formal dance tuition to both improve their children’s life and pysical skills development and help them meet new friends.
With the advent of UKA medal tests and prize presentations the Academy soon became recognised by all pupils as a serious means to progress through to higher standards of excellence. Since then it has successfully expanded and now encompasses additional dance schools for both adults and juniors across the wider regional area.
Having been a successful world class competitor Kate Fisher was well known in the dance society and regularly invites up and coming dance talent to her school to perform at various charity events as well as at annual presentation events for the school. Having watched and Supported Kerry Dennehy (now colleague and fellow UKA professional) for a number of years Kate invited her to perform at an annual presentation evening for the academy students. It was from this invite that the two formed a strong friendship Kate supporting Kerry’s competitive endeavours and success over many years.
After Kerry relocated to Rugby Kate invited her to assist with the dance school whilst she trained for her professional qualifications and entered into the latter stages of her amateur competitive career before turning professional in 2016. Since this formation it was clear the two shared the same love of dance and in 2017 Kate invited Kerry in to the joint venture of DanceChamp.
Kate’s role as Principle of the school has seen her taking on less teaching activities but she is still actively involved in adult classes and school productions and competitions.
Kerry has taken on the the majority of the classes that Kate grew so successfully and will continue to take the lead in relation to the school with active support and guidance from Kate who has acclaimed her knowledge over the years. The pair really are the ‘Dream Team’.
